GUIDELINES

ELIGIBILITY
The concerto competition features one division – the Youth Division. Students participating must be residents of Illinois and must be 17 years of age or younger as of June 1, 2019.

REPERTOIRE
Candidates should prepare and record one movement of a concerto or a single-movement work for solo instrument and orchestra. The duration of the full work may not exceed 20 minutes. An audio recording of the work with piano accompaniment must be mailed to the Sinfonia office prior to July 15, 2019 in order for the applicant to be considered. The first round is blind and entirely objective, as a panel will judge the prescreening recordings but will not be given either the names or biographical information of the applicants. Applicants whose recordings pass the prescreening round will be invited to the live audition occurring in mid-to-late August 2019, and will receive notification as to their advancement no later than August 1, 2019.

LIVE AUDITION
Live auditions will be held the end of August 2019 (date and time: TBD). Applicants advancing to the live audition will be sent a detailed schedule at least one week prior to the event. Music must be memorized for the live audition. The second round participants will be judged by a committee comprised of Sinfonia da Camera music director Ian Hobson and two or more other principal players from the orchestra. Applicants must provide their own accompanist for the live audition. Results will be announced via email within 24 hours of the audition.
